Joseph started his martial arts journey at 9 with Tang Soo Do, a traditional Korean system, where he developed a passion for training, earning his first black belt by age 15. He quickly began assisting with and then instructing classes until going to college. At the University of GA he branched out into other systems such as Aikido and Kashima Shin-ryu swordsmanship. He was a founding member of his University branch of the SCA, where he lead practices in armored European fencing. Joseph explored the sports side of martial arts with 2 years of Tae Kwon Do. In 2017 he joined the Shaolin Institute and trained there in traditional Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Sanda kickboxing until 2024. He became an instructor at Shaolin Institute after the Covid pandemic, leading the school to recovery. He was named its Chief Instructor and Director in 2023. During his time, Joseph organized, participated in and earned medals in numerous demos, performances and tournaments across Atlanta.
